WELCOME

The 'Reminiscence' day held at Bo'ness on the 17th May 2007 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the inaugural meeting of the British Hill Climb Championship generated an upsurge of enthusiasm and support for the resumption of motor sport on this famous old hill. The essence of the site exists in the survival of the course from the Start to above the Courtyard; the final straight with its artificial 'Snake' bend being the only portion to have been lost.

The Bo'ness Hill Climb Revival Club was founded to bring speed hill climbing back to Bo'ness and the first event was held on August 9/10, 2008. This has proved to be a very welcome addition to the portfolio of Historic Motorsport in Scotland, and does not compete in any way with established clubs, organisers, venues and championships.

COMMITTEE UPDATE

At the December committee meeting Bill Drysdale took over as Chairman from Tom MacMillan. Bill thanked Tom for his work as Chairman during the first year of the BHCR. Tom will now concentrate on the commercial side of the club and be responsible for trade stands, sponsors and exhibitors for the 2009 Revival meeting.

Steve Smith takes over as treasurer from Bill and Kenny Baird adds Minute Secretary to his Press Officer duties.

Regrettably Marion and Brian Hopkins are leaving the committee due to a very busy personal schedule in 2009. They were both thanked for their contribution to the club and the Revival meeting. Their wide experience of organising events has been invaluable and they will still be available for help and advice in the future.

Alisdaire Lockhart was welcomed as a new member of the committee. Alisdaire attended the Revival meeting in his 1920 D type Vauxhall Kingston Open Tourer complete with some very drookit friends! He is a committee member of the Borders Vintage Automobile Club and a collector and authority on early Vauxhall motor cars. He also has strong links with the Vintage Sports Car Club and the Bugatti Owners Club. A useful pedigree indeed!

BHCR HONORARY MEMBER

At a lunch hosted by the BHCR committee recently, Mr W.K. (Bill) Henderson was made an honorary member of the BHCR in recognition of his service to Scottish motor sport over more than 60 years.

Bill attended his first Bo'ness Hill Climb in 1946 and since then he has covered most of the motor sport events in Scotland in the last 60 years. For more than 50 years he was the Autosport representative in Scotland and he also visited many of the circuits down south including the 1955 British GP meeting when Stirling Moss narrowly won from Juan Manuel Fangio.

Before his retiral Bill was an art teacher and he has also supplied technical illustrations, paintings and photographs for many books on motor sport.

Bill continues to take photographs at all Scottish motor sport events irrespective of the weather. He is always the perfect gentleman and a very worthy first honorary member of the BHCR.
