THE DR. M R Chassels Trophy
Dr. Mirrlees Chassels honoured us by re-opening the hill in August 2008. Mirrlees and his wife Mabel, competed with some success at Bo'ness in the post-war years in his Frazer-Nash based Special. Mirrlees' racing career ended after a bad crash at Snake Bend in 1952 but he continued to attend meetings in the role of Course Doctor. Mirrlees sadly passed away on November 2nd 2008. His sons Stuart and James have very kindly donated a solid silver trophy in their Dad's honour. It is a cup which Mirrlees won in 1937 and it will be awarded to the fastest pre-1953 car at Bo'ness. This is the BHCR's first perpetual trophy and our sincere thanks go to Stuart and James for this wonderful gesture.

James Ferguson Gibbon, 3rd generation of the Rover distributors James Gibbon Motors, was born in Queensland, Australia in February 1917.
Better known in motor sport circles as Jimmy Gibbon, he was a dare devil from the word go. He played rugby for London Polytechnic, rock climbed (including The Old Man of Hoy) and took part in many motor sport events including sand racing at St Andrews in 1947 in a pre war Aston Martin International.
From 1948 he designed and built his own Rover based "Specials", the first of which was the Girastro and he competed at The Rest and Be Thankful, Crimmond, Turnberry, Charterhall and of course Bo'ness, culminating in 1956 with a very competitive 3 litre sports racing car. Even in his eighties he was still single handedly sailing a 12 metre catamaran, a challenging task for a man half his age.
Sadly he was killed in 2003 in a road accident in Portugal where he spent his later years. No other vehicles were involved and the suspicion that he may have been driving a little too fast in wet conditions crossed our minds but we will never know - such was the man.
The Gibbon Trophy for the fastest time by a Bo'ness Special was presented to Mike Mohr driving his Lagonda Rapier Special. It was presented by Shonagh and Jamie Gibbon's daughter, Sophie, Jimmy Gibbon's granddaughter.

The AC Goodfellow Trophy
Andrew Goodfellow competed in sprints, hill climbs and circuit racing all over the UK from the late 1950's until the 1970's mainly, but not exclusively, driving Cooper single-seaters. Andrew was a member of BHCR until his death in April of this year. Andrew's son Scott has competed at both Revival Meetings in his Terrier Mk2 sports racing car which competed at Bo'ness in the 60's.
The AC Goodfellow Trophy was presented for the Fastest Time of the Day (FTD) by a pre-1970 single-seater racing car. It was won by Fyrth Crosse in his very quick Mallock U2 Mk2. Andrew Goodfellow's widow Sheena presented the trophy.

The Bo'ness Cup
The Bo'ness Cup for the fastest time by a Vintage car was won by Sue Shoosmith driving her Bentley 3/41/2 Litre.

The Chairman's Award!
This was won, funnily enough, by the Chairman! Bill Drysdale received his award for "services rendered".

THE DR. M R Chassels Trophy 2009
The first winner of the Dr M R Chassels Trophy was Martin Spencer from Dudley driving his GN Spider II. Mirrlees' sons Stuart and James were present to watch the presentation on Sunday evening.
If anyone would like to compete for this trophy next year these Jim Moir photos of Martin in action will give you some idea of the commitment required!
